SPIRITUALITY, ANYONE?

By Siddharth Tripathi

A friend of mine called me up recently. We had a short chat, he was rushing for a meeting. I remember two things he said.

‘Once I get promoted, I’ll be in a good place. Till then, life is going to be hell’ he said. And then after a while he mentioned, ‘I feel at peace when I escape to the hills.’

We are constantly looking for this ‘good place’. All human pursuit is underpinned by this need to be happy, isn’t it?

But happiness remains elusive. There are at times when we are truly content and at peace and then it goes away replaced by the drudgery of our daily lives. And we live on hoping to regain that feeling.

Is there a way to stop being bothered by what’s happening (around us and within us)?

Is there a way to be happy and at peace always?

Spiritual knowledge attempts to answer this most fundamental question.

Spirituality is the essence of the insights that great sages and saints have shared on their journey to enlightenment (enlightenment to me is not some superpower, it is simply to be at peace always; and to be at peace is to be happy).

If you wish to be happy no matter what life throws at you, embarking on a spiritual journey is probably the only way to get there. And there is no better time to begin than now. Do whatever suits you – meditate, chant, read, practice yogic postures — eventually you’ll find yourself to be more self aware, at peace and with a refreshed perspective on life.

I wish you good luck and I assure you, there is nothing more rewarding than a brisk walk on this path.
