Sankara, The Universal Teacher

Tattvaloka
2.715$

Adi Sankara Bhagavatpada’s lifespan was short, but achievements multidimensional. When merely five, he had completed study of Vedas and at seven renounced the world and became a sannyasin. At 12 he had written the most profound commentary on the Vedanta Sastra of he Veda Vyasa. His commentary on the Bhagvad Gita, the Upanishads and the Brahma Sutras had become world famous as the Prasthana Traya. His philosophy came to be known as Advaita Siddhanta–non-dualism.

As envisioned by the present Peethadhipati, His Holiness Sri Bharati =Tirtha Mahaswamiji, Tatvaloka had devoted some issues in the 1980s and 1990s exclusively to Adi Sankara and analysed his multi-faceted personality–world teacher, universal benefactor, brilliant leader, poet par excellence, ocean of mercy and an adept in yoga. Some of them are presented here in this book to give a peep into the multi-splendoured achievements of the world teacher. They include a rare article, Sankara Bhagavatpada– Commentator Par Excellence, written by His Holiness originally in Sanskrit.

This book is divided into eight sections, each highlighting an aspect of his achievements. The articles compiled here present Sankara’s personality from different angles. Consequently, repetition of some incidents is unavoidable. We hope the readers will see them in the context and perspective in which they used. Some of the authors are no more but their writings live on.

Sankara lives today. His teachings are relevant to all people at all times. His perceptions are reflected in the thoughts and conduct of great man of today. The devout believe he is an incarnation of Lord Siva.

This compilation is intended to stimulate thought among the readers, raise questions in their minds and invite discussions–not for the blind acceptance, but reasoned acknowledgment–and create an enduring awareness of the eternal varieties of life. It is hoped they will kindle the desire in them to go back to the original and delve deep into Sankara’s writings.
